This equipment arrived a couple of hours ago. Setup was incredibly simple. I didn't know that the box didn't contain an HDMI cable, so I took one off my DVD recorder and used it. The setup consisted of connecting HDMI to the system and the TV, plugging in the unit, and turning it on.
Next I went to setup to configure the system. Because my TV is 1080p, I wanted high resolution output from the BD390. My only problem that it told me to hit the RESOLUTION button at one point and I couldn't find it! I look on the unit and on the remote but didn't see the button. Finally, I resorted to the manual. It initially wasn't much help because the instructions there for changing the resolution also refer to that button. I then found the diagram of the remote and discovered that the bottom slides open to reveal a bunch more buttons. Aha! There's the RESOLUTION button.
The other settings are pretty self-explanatory. There are several controls for the TV on the remote, including a TV Power button. I have a Sony TV and it was easy to set up the remote to work with it (although you once again need the hidden buttons on the remote).
The next step was to establish a connection to my Netflix account. It helps to know that you should log onto Netflix on a nearby computer first. When you try to connect the device, it will show a 6-character code. You go to Netflix on the computer and enter this code as indicated and, voila, the device is associated with the Netflix account and you can see your instant queue. Watching a Netflix film this way isn't high definition, of course, but it's better than what I was doing before (namely, hooking my laptop up to the TV and watching that way). It's a full-screen grainy picture.
Next I tried out a few of my favorite YouTube videos. Again, they show up better than they did when I connected through my laptop to the TV. The picture is full-screen and grainy (i.e. not hi-def) as I would expect.
Last, I watched a Blu-Ray movie (Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven) and was quite pleased with the result. This was my first time to view a Blu-Ray film, but I assume that was I saw is the quality one would expect. I consider it better than normal DVD, but not markedly so.
In summary, I'm quite happy with both the setup and the performance of this device.Get more detail about LG BD 390 Network Blu-ray Disc Player.
