Out of the box set-up was easy and straight-forward. Immediately recognized our wireless network and applicable computer media folders. Netflix connection and streaming was also quick and easy. Our XBOX 360 allows identical functionality but I prefer the interface on the BD 390.
If you aren't a Netflix subscriber, I highly recommend it. With the lowest priced subscription, you have access to not only Blu Ray DVDs delivered to your mailbox but a treasure trove of instant streaming content through this device. Depending on your broadband connection speed, the results are surprisingly satisfying - some in virtual HD. Netflix really opens up the potential of a device like this.
Blu Ray disc loading was quick and in-line with the competition. Beautiful and vibrant colors alighted on our LG 42" LCD 120hz HDTV. Upconversion of our standard DVDs elicited a deep and attractive picture.
Remote control is IR-only requiring line-of-sight to the device while the touted Simplink remote control commonality between our other LG device was disappointingly limited. Some critical features could not be controlled through either the TV or the Blu Ray player. The front of the product - which is both glassy and stylish - comes with a price: a propensity for fingerprints.
I researched other options and - though none were perfect (unless price was no option) - the BD 390 offered a terrific array of features, promised a crystal clear Blu Ray experience, and superior upconversion. We were not disappointed.
